From the early 80's to mid 90's we traveled throughout the Indian subcontinent for several years and visited many other exotic locations famous for ganja. During these adventurous travels we were fortunate to be able to collect a stock of seeds from land race strains, some of which are now almost extinct in their original locations.We also use the benefits of so called 'hybridisation'. This means that two, preferably very distinct, cannabis strains are crossed with each other to produce a new, unique variety. This new genetic combination produces particularly powerful, high quality plants in the first generation - also known as the F1 generation. To ensure the success of the F1 generation, both parent strains undergo a rigorous selection for desired characteristics, such as their psychoactivity or flowering power. This stage can take several years to complete. From the best plants of each strain one parent plant is then chosen to make a cross and combine the special characteristics of both strains.The benefits of an F1 generation, that has been produced in this manner, are enhanced vegetative and flowering growth, which in turn promotes easy cultivation and allows for bumper crops. The plants grow faster und more vigorously, they possess better resistance against pests, adapt to different cultivation methods and develop, under the right circumstances, impressive masses of flowering buds. The cannabis cultivator saves a lot of time and money and can concentrate on the pleasant, daily gardening tasks instead of battling with all kinds of problems and plant symptoms, that arise from cannabis strains weakened from inbreeding (continuously crossing plants within the same strain).What cannot be prevented in an F1 generation are variable growth patterns among individual plants. It is possible that flowering time, plant height, and yield vary among the plants. Generally, this is a situation already familiar to many cultivators, since most cannabis strains are not 100% stabilised (ie. plants show exactly the same traits). There are, more or less, differences in appearance and the psychoactive effect between individual plants in a large number of cannabis varieties. We believe the average friend of marijuana places more emphasis on having plants with a reliable performance in vigour and potency, than having them all reach an exactly specified height or mature like clockwork. That said, though, we enhance or fine tune the homogenity of the strains as much as possible, without compromising on their vigour, or on the other important characteristics that Mandala growers have come to cherish in our strains. With each fresh seed stock the newest generation of a strain is introduced.The cannabis varieties of Mandala Seeds are bred for particular traits that we find necessary are important in good marijuana to enable easy, successful cultivation and bring the psychoactive effect to it's full potential. It is our objective to minimize unwanted genetic weaknesses such as susceptibility to mold, or the appearance of hermaphrodites (plants with both male and female flowers), as much as possible.Cannabis is a plant species that reacts to environmental stress factors and tends to produce male flowers at the end of it's life cycle in sinsemilla cultivation. Some of the world's most famous cannabis land races (such as Thai grass) are hermaphroditic. Many modern marijuana varieties are already mildly, or even extremely, hermaphroditic and overreact to their environment.Since we have to assume that the plants are cultivated under different grow circumstances, it is important to us that the female plants do not unnecessarily endanger a sinsemilla garden with male pollen. Limited Edition 2010Each limited edition of Krystalica has been a once-in-a-lifetime unique creation. With Krystalica you can witness how much time and energy we focus into the making of a Mandala strain. It has been five years since the last edition and during this period we have been meticulously selecting and testing a large selection of plants in search for a new pair of parents that can create a cross worthy of the predecessors in the Krystalica lineage.Everyone who has even remotely enjoyed our Satori will appreciate Krystalica as another essential connoisseur strain. She offers a great package deal that is hard to come by: impressive resin production, good yields, easy growing, and a superb high. Although both strains have features in common, the cannabinoids in Krystalica make up a distinctly different high. Satori can be too overwhelming for some smokers. Krystalica is smoother and less dramatic in the intial phase of the high, therefore especially appreciated by sensitive persons, or those prone to paranoia and anxiety. This is also a sativa with a relaxing effect that makes you want to slow down and enjoy. Whereas Satori is also suitable for energetic pursuits or partying, Krystalica is best smoked when you want to wind down but stay refreshed or creative at the same time. The medical applications for Krystalica are extensive since it has top THC levels with a very pleasant high to match. However, we do not recommend this strain to persons with sleep disorders.Krystalica can be grown indoor from seeds or clones. Use 400-600W HPS/m2 for best results because this is a high performance strain and may not flower well under low light. In hydroponics impressive yields can be expected – especially if you have selected a mother plant that brings the extra pounds on the scale. A very promising pheno for yield is the early flowering type. It can have the classic XXL leaves typical of many of our Mandala strains. Krystalica grows long shoots extending from the bottom two internodes. These should be pruned in hydroponics or if your grow space is cramped. The remaining branches are of medium length but may require some support during late flowering if the buds become particularly heavy. It is usually sufficient to tie a thick string or gardening wire around the outside perimeter of the plant. The plants grow well in SOG and can be planted in close rows. With 4 weeks of vegetative growth under 400W HPS/m2 in quality soil you can expect the plants to reach a height between 70-110 cm. Use at least 5L/1 gallon containers for growth and 10L/2.5 gallon for flowering for plants from seed (clones can be raised in smaller containers).Bud development is unlike a typical sativa and quite dense with some plants exhibiting broad indica-type buds. Trichome production can reach amazing heights, extending to the sun leaves, so it pays to keep back-up clones and select the most spectacular individual as mother plant or for breeding projects.OutdoorOutdoor cultivation is recommended in regions with warm summers, or up to the 45°N. Krystalica is heat resistant and will grow well in arid-hot environments or a greenhouse. The head buds can grow to extraordinary proportions and deliver bumper crops. Further north the performance and harvest date will depend on local weather and length of daylight. Sowing of seeds should commence when there is no more danger of nighttime frost. Sowing can be extended until end of May if you prefer to cultivate shorter plants. Start seeds indoor if the weather is cold and move the seedlings/young plants outdoor or to the greenhouse later. The same can be done with cuttings – but make sure that the light cycle is appropriate so that flowering doesn’t start too soon outside.
